Project Activities:
•Conduct 06 meetings in each district of Sindh Thatta, Matiari and Sanghar with food department, farmers association and media with particular emphasis on limiting the government purchase up to 75 bags per farmer.
•540 broadcasting of advocacy messages in Thatta, Matiari and Sanghar through FM radio for limiting the quota of 75 bags per farmer.
•Conduct one theater performance in all three districts on food security issue at press club for getting attention of urban people and media.
•Distribute copies of printed material on at least two themes (land use planning in context of EC Food security training, post harvest management) brochures related to law 10 half day training sessions will be conducted to train 300 volunteers and social activists on IEC material(3000 in Thatta, 2000 in Matiari and 3000 in Sanghar).
•Conduct stakeholder analysis. This analysis will be carried out through desktop research with particular emphasis on identifying power structure both favourable an unfavourable stakeholders to address the food security issue. Based on this analysis a consultation meeting with farmer association representatives, CSo media and distinct forum will be carried out purposely to develop the action plan for favourable power structure and develop strategies to minimize the risks of unfavorable power structure.
•Conduct two consultative meetings with farmers associations. Whole seller/middleman and government departments. The purpose of these meetings is to build the close coordination between these stakeholders to ensure the fair market price of wheat, minimize the chances of monopoly and ensure transparent procurement process, ensure easy access of small farmer to ‘Bardana’ (In three districts).
•Draw and disseminate 13,000 one pager pamphlets reflecting trend information sheet on wheat input cost, yield per acre and price of output for last decade (5000 in Thatta, 3000 in Matiari and 5000 in Sanghar).
•Farmer association conducts 4 monitoring visits in each district to keep eye on market to report in media. Based on these monitoring visits FAs will conduct one lobbying meeting with food department to ensure the regulation of market price.
•Conduct rapid assessment survey on available formal and informal credit sources for agri inputs (in Three districts).
•Based on assessment develop 13,000 pamphlets containing information material for prons and cons of credit sources and documentation process from different banks with complete information about minimum interest rates(5000 in Thatta, 3000 in Matiari and 5000 in Sanghar).
•Conduct 3 awareness sessions with formers on the negative impact of borrowing from local lenders/arthi for agriculture needs of small farmers (In Thatta, MAtiari and Sanghar).
•Credit market analysis-Research study (In three districts).
•Three Lobby meetings with stakeholders (MPAs, media, civil society) for legislation to provide interest free credit facility to peasants (In all Three districts Thatta, Matiari and Sanghar).
•Review and publish 2000 copies of existing laws/procedures regarding regulation of pesticides and fertilizer, process of agriculture department regarding sample collection, implication of law in case of adulteration and process of prosecution in case of guilty. After reviewing the laws one lobbying meeting will be organize to implement the law and set frequency of checking/ monitoring the fake pesticides and fertilizers (Thatta, Matiari and Sanghar).
•Conduct 3 awareness sessions in all three districts on negative impact of fake pesticides on crop production and inform them about identified shops /outlets for quality inputs, awareness regarding the importance of water and soil testing.
• 540 Radio promos for information sharing regarding testing the promos will aware farmers regarding the cost of soil and water testing and location of laboratories (in all three districts).
•Conduct 3 awareness sessions in each district, to raise awareness regarding the importance of water and soil testing.
•Conduct assessment on available and affordable innovative inputs.
•Based on assessment develop and disseminate pamphlets on innovative input such as introduction of new variety of seeds, fertilizer, operating methods of technical equipments and promotion material on integrated pest management. A lobbying meeting will be carried out with Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam as they have all the technical equipments and workshops for demonstration. This lobbying meeting may be useful for facilitation of small farmer (In Thatta 3000, In Matiari 2000 and 3000 in Sanghar).
•Activate district level forum to monitor the process of irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation. The forum will be comprised of representatives of FAs, CSO representatives, social activists, and media representatives. This forum will conduct two monitoring visits in each district and share their findings through press releases.
•Based on monitoring visits and share updates of other activities monthly meetings with forum will be conducted to sensitize for purpose of infrastructure rehabilitation and develop action plan for lobbying and advocacy (only in Thatta MS Tori Band)
•Facilitate quarterly forums media meeting to highlight issue and share their findings (Thatta MS Tori Band)
•Technical review by consultants and based on findings (MS Band)
•One Book launch ceremony on the above mentioned technical review.
